You may have noticed a recent promotional/sales campaign on social media from a Canadian company called Mitsoh – I explored their website and found some deelish snacks and treats that really appealed to my savoury tastebuds! I discovered that Edmonton-based chef and entrepreneur Ian Gladue (pictured below) is expanding his traditional First Nations dry meat business, Mitsoh, to hundreds of retail stores across Canada, including southern Ontario (yes, many specialty stores in Toronto carry the dry meat and pemmican) – the website has a store locator function to you can find a store near you. You can also order directly from them so you don’t have to deal with trudging outside through winter winds and snow.Founded in 2018, Mitsoh (means “eat” in Cree Nehiyaw), is more than just a Canadian company – it’s part of Canada’s rich history. Their products are rooted in tradition and is inspired by the food that sustained Indigenous peoples for generations. Made here in Canada, every bite of Mitsoh pemmican and dry meat carries the story of resilience, community and connection. When you purchase Mitsoh products, you’re helping preserve the history and culture that makes Canada unique.
Director of Sales, Emily Grace, told me….”At Mitsoh, our mission is to bring Indigenous superfoods back to the modern world and reconnect people with the foods that have fuelled our ancestors for generations. Unlike commercial snacks filled with additives and fillers, our dry meat and pemmican strips are made with only whole, natural ingredients like bison, berries, maple syrup, and smoke. Packed with clean protein, healthy fats, and essential nutrients, our foods aren’t just fuel – they’re a return to the way we were meant to eat. Mitsoh is more than nutrition; it’s about connecting culture, honouring tradition, and nourishing both body and spirit the way nature intended.”
Living with diabetes 2, I was thrilled when Emily told me… “our products are particularly beneficial for individuals with diabetes, as they’re nutrient-dense and provide a great snack option.”
I’m checking out Mitsoh products this week – I’ve found a couple of stores near me – so let’s support not just Canadian products but an Indigenous company that’s sharing its knowledge and delicious foods with us. https://www.mitsoh.com/
